KIMPTON KITALAY SAMUI
There were some existing structures already located on the property. They were mostly wood in the mood of vernacular architecture. With the demolition of the existing structures, the old wood was reused with the new architectural language. The main design concept of Kimpton Kitalay Samui is interventions between old vs new and local vs contemporary architecture.
In addition, the design is intended to reflect the senses of Samui. Its remarkable scene of a coconut island has been well known since the past was brought into the architectural details of screens alike coconut leaves widely used throughout the resort. When the light shines through the screen, it feels like you are under the shade of coconut trees.
