Hotel Indigo Phuket Patong is a boutique hotel developed for the International Hotel Group (IHG) under the corporate motto “No two neighborhoods are alike.” The hotel is located at the northern end of Patong Beach, the vibrant nightlife hub of Phuket.
This mid-height resort-styled hotel will provide 180 rooms in total, comprising10 room types. It will also feature a themed café and bar, boutique retail stores at street level, and two swimming pools, one of which overlooks the ocean.
A principal architectural feature of the hotel will be the ‘Blue Gate’, an atrium that divides the street elevation in two. This will be clad in vivid blue porcelain tiles, reflecting the heritage of Phuket as a notable overseas Chinese community and trading port on the Andaman coast. This featured wall is repeated at the second five-story-high atrium entrance to the neighboring café. The atrium void is topped with roof garden, connecting the corridor and the sky.
Guestroom layouts are categorized into two main types, depending on balcony size. The arrangement of the rooms develops a dynamic rhythm along the 330-foot-long (100-meter-long) façade. The larger size of balcony will be provided with oversized seating, wooden drinking hatch[AQ: is this meant to be ‘hatch’?], and high stools, to take in the street view. The gesture toward the neighborhood’s Chinese heritage is repeated in the Oriental patterns to be incorporated into the balcony privacy screens.
In contrast to the calm, modern exterior, the interior design will pick up on the vibrancy of the surrounding area—reflecting the activity of local fishing villages, the rhythm of the tropical jungle, and the energy of the nearby international nightlife district.
